Donald Curtis Sahl, age 89, of Kenyon, MN, passed away peacefully at the Kenyon Sunset Home on Monday, February 4, 2013.

Donald was born in Kenyon, the son of Oscar and Clara (Gunhus) Sahl. He grew up on the family farm in Kenyon and attended elementary school at the one room schoolhouse in Epsom. He graduated from Kenyon High School and continued his education at Hobart Trade School in Troy, Ohio. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII on active duty in the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign. He was a proud veteran and honored to have served his country.

Don married Helen Margaret Keck in 1949. They made their lifelong home in Kenyon, where Don and brother, Philip, owned Sahl Brother''s Construction. He then became Street Superintendent for the City of Kenyon, and for the remainder of his career owned and operated Don Sahl Construction Service, from 1966 until his retirement in 1989. Don was involved in many community and church activities. He volunteered on Kenyon''s fire department, serving as Fire Chief for two of those years, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 141. He enjoyed fishing, and traveling the countryside with his family, taking the back roads at every opportunity.

We remember our father most for his kindness, patience, creativity, resourcefulness, hard work ethic and adventurous spirit. He was a great storyteller and conversationalist and enjoyed conversing over a cup of coffee anytime of the day. He had a keen sense of humor and ever-present smile.

Donald will be greatly missed by his loving family: daughter Mary Jane Sahl (Mark Forsberg); son, David (and Mary) Sahl, grandchildren Emily, Kariann, Jacob Sahl, Benjamin, William Forsberg.

Greatly mourning his passing too are his special nieces and nephews, and their families, that he loved like his own children; Mike (and Joan) Sahl, Linda (Sahl) and Larry Bennett, Julie (Sahl) and Mark Huseth, Tom Sahl (and Linnea), Terry (and Jackie) Sahl, Danny Jystad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, baby daughter, and brother, Philip.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 12:30 to 2 PM at Gol Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at Gol Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 2 PM with Pastor Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home. Memorials preferred to Gol Lutheran Church or the Kenyon Sunset Home. Honors will be provided by Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
