Gerald “Gerry” Eugene Vaupel, 74, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2013 at his home.

He was born November 17, 1938 in Sibley, Iowa the son of Edwin and Lena (Franken) Vaupel. Gerry joined the Air Force in 1957 and was stationed at Bunker Hill Air Force Base in Indiana. He met Cleo in October of 1958 and they were married on December 11, 1958. Their marriage took place at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN. Gerry''s grandchildren and great grandchildren had a special place in his heart. Gerry and Cleo lived in Owatonna for 35 years and as a result have made many friends in the community. Gerry enjoyed NASCAR, Viking''s Football, and spending time with his family. He bowled with the Owatonna Eagles for many years and was a member of the Elks, and Associated Church. Gerry was a baker by profession and worked at Hy-Vee for 21 years. He always had a smile on his face and had a wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Cleo (Henrichs) and their four children; Terry (Brenda Vaupel of San Antonio, TX, Crystal (Marvin) Litke of Owatonna, Tim (Koryn) Vaupel of Owatonna, and Kim (Sal) Ligameri of St. Pete Beach, FL. Gerry and Cleo also have nine grandchildren Justin, Travis, Melissa, Jenna, Aaron, Lucas, Jasmine, Jacob, and Victoria. Gerry also has six great grandchildren Owen, Lincoln, Hayden, Jaxon, and Letty. Gerry is also survived by his brother Maynard (Jean) Vaupel of Belvidere, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a nephew. Gerry will be missed greatly by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday February 12, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at The Associated Church on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM at The Associated Church with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens Cemetery with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House.
