Lloyd H. Homuth, 88, of Owatonna, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Clare Bridge Cottage.

Lloyd was born September 11, 1924 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Henry and Ida (Berg) Homuth. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Owatonna graduating from Owatonna High School in 1942. He continued to help on the farm after high school. Lloyd was united in marriage to Jeannette Masche on October 15, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the farm until 2004 when they moved in to Owatonna.

Lloyd farmed his entire life, even after retirement. He worked at the ASCS Office as a land assessor and later he began Homuth Insurance specializing in Federal Crop Insurance. In the later years of the insurance company, Lloyd took on a partner and the insurance company then became Homuth-Kubicek Insurance. Lloyd retired from the insurance agency at the age of 80.

Lloyd kept busy between his years with the insurance agency and farming. Lloyd played in several bands including the Red Dots, Czeckmates and finally the Melody Mates. They would play at local nursing homes as well as the Steele County Free Fair. He was a talented musician and played all types of instruments including the tuba, guitar, the piano, concertina and was a self taught violinist. Jeannette and Lloyd enjoyed traveling where they made it to all 50 states as well as Europe, Canada and Mexico. The couple also traveled to Texas, Arizona and to Florida during the winter months. Lloyd was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was a member of the Owatonna Eagles, the Elks and the Aztecs. He was also secretary of the rural county fire department.

He is survived by his wife Jeannette Homuth of Owatonna; two daughters, Virginia Latocki of Minneapolis; Sonja (and Jeff) Golwitzer of Lithia, FL; a son Chuck (and Arlina) Homuth of Temple Terrace, FL; a grandson Zachary Homuth of Temple Terrace; and a brother Ingbert (and Isabel) Wangen of Owatonna.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law William (and Ann) Wangen.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
