Marilyn Joan Wanous, 72, of Owatonna, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House.

She was born March 29, 1938 in Owatonna the daughter of Frederick and Vernice (Nelson) Wagner. Marilyn grew up near Claremont and graduated from Claremont High School. She married Luverne Wanous Dec. 26, 1959 at St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church in Claremont. She worked for many years as a secretary at the Claremont High School until staying home to raise her children. Marilyn and her husband farmed together for many years. She worked as a banquet waitress at the Eagle's and the Western Inn.

Marilyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she had been active in church guild. She enjoyed wintering in Texas with her husband for many years. She spent a lot of time gardening, cooking and sewing. Marilyn enjoyed hosting family holidays and special gatherings. Time with her family was an especially important part of her life.

She is survived by her husband Luverne Wanous of Owatonna; daughters, Debra (and Ray) Hanks of Waseca, Jane (and Joe) Spatenka of Owatonna, Mary Ann Wanous of Owatonna, Nancy (and Bryan) Vroman of Owatonna; grandchildren, Steven (and Fiancé Jessica) Hanks, Andrew (and Special Friend Chelsea) Hanks, Kyle Hanks, Trent Spatenka, Vanessa (and Justin) Johnson, Tyler Vroman; great granddaughter, Kylee Rae Hanks; brother, Norman (and Ann) Wagner of Charlotte, NC; sister, Jean Wagner of Rochester and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Foundation, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Homestead Hospice House.
