Adwell Jerome 'Jerry' McGowan, 80, of Owatonna, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at his home. Jerry was born October 14, 1931 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Adwell Steven and Hildegarde (Glock) McGowan. When he was young, he lived throughout Minnesota while his father worked road construction. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict stationed in Germany. He received his honorable discharge in 1954. He was united in marriage to Marian Wang on November 15, 1952. He worked for the Journal Chronicle retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Owatonna VFW and the American Legion in Owatonna. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an active member of the 20 Rifle and Pistol Club. He is survived by his wife, Marian McGowan of Owatonna; two sons, Larry Michael (and Lori ) McGowan of Edina; Steve Jerome (and Jaimie) McGowan of Lincoln, NE; a daughter, Jean Marie (and Brad) Auringer of Waseca; two brothers, Marlow (and Barb) McGowan of Pine Island; a sister, Neoma McGowan of Brisbane, Australia, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Duane McGowan. Visitation will be at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Reverend Karl Korbel and Intern Pastor Gena Koeberl officiating.. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steel County Military Funeral Unit. Arrangements by the Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna.
