Obituary

Alan “Al” Wayne Struss, 73, of Owatonna, died on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Benedictine Living Community.

He was born February 15, 1953, in Tyler, Minnesota, the son of Cyril Struss and Evelyn (Nielsen) Larsen. Al grew up in Tyler and graduated from Tyler High School. He then went to Mankato State University and graduated with a degree in accounting. Soon after graduating, he passed the CPA exam and started his successful career as a CPA. Al started his CPA business in 1981 and finished his career proudly working with his son, Dan. He married Geraldine in 1975; they raised three boys together and later divorced.

In his free time, he loved to golf, garden, and watch sports. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren, taking them to gopher basketball games, the cabin, and going on golf cart rides. Al was proud of his sobriety, accomplishing being sober for 33 years. He was also a member of the Rotary and Toastmasters clubs of Owatonna.

Al is survived by his three sons, Daniel (Sarah) Struss, Brian Struss, and Aaron (Neomi) Struss, all of Owatonna; grandchildren, Paytyn Struss, Kaiden Struss, Lilly Struss, and RaeLynn Struss; brothers, Daryl Struss and Keith Struss; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Struss; mother, Evelyn Larsen; step-father; and brother, Dean Struss.
