Obituary

Albion M. Rodde, 91, of Kenyon, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at his residence. He was born November 3, 1918 in Kenyon Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota the son of Alfred and Marie (Langemo) Rodde. He was baptized at his parents home on December 29, 1918 and was confirmed on June 18, 1933 at Holden Lutheran Church. Albion graduated from Kenyon High School with the class of 1937, and served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. During his time in the Army, he took part in such things as the D-Day Invasion, Battle of the Bulge, and was a platoon leader of 75 men (193rd Gas Supply Company) hauling gas to the front lines. He received the de la Croix de Guerre Medal from the French Government, their equivalent to the American Army Bronze Star. Albion married Marian Underdahl on November 4, 1946. Albion worked at the Kenyon Farmer's Elevator for twenty-four years, the last number of years as Manager; he then worked at the Kenyon Sunset Home as Administrator for over sixteen years retiring in 1984. After retirement he worked at the Clothing Doc, and Emerson's Fine Furniture until 1997 when he fully retired. In all, he worked a total of fifty-two years on Kenyon's Main Street. Many awards came his way over the years including Goodhue County Citizen of the Year in 1981, Kenyon Citizen of the Year in 1982, and he also received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award in that same year. He was recognized as an Honorary member of the Minnesota Association of Homes for the Aging in 1993. He devoted countless hours to various groups over the years and held leadership positions in all of these organizations : Lutheran Brotherhood - Cannon Valley Branch, Project Neighbor, Kenyon Lions Club, Kenyon United Fund, Kenyon PTA, Kenyon Commercial Club, American Legion, Memorial Day Committee, Faribault Area Hospice, Kenyon Country Club, Kenyon Realty Co., Roseview Apartments Board of Directors, SE District of American Lutheran Church, and the Republican Party. Albion was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member since 1950, Parish Hall Building Committee, Treasurer for 16 years, Sunday School Teacher for 18 years, and Choir member for 46 years. He is survived by his spouse Marian Rodde of Kenyon two sons John (Deloris) Rodde of Goshen, IN, Mark (Joan) Rodde of Owatonna, four grandchildren Jillian, AJ, Don (Teri), Christina, great grandchildren Stephen, and Julie. He is also survived by three sisters Aldora Lee of Osceola, WI, Alice (Byron) Bishop of Robbinsdale, and Rosella Strandemo of Kenyon, and one brother Fritz (Shirley) Rodde of Richfield. His parents and one brother, Phillip, preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Friday from 4-7 PM and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10-11 AM. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon with military honors provided by the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
