Obituary

Alfred Gerhard Huseth, 89, of Kenyon, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. He was born as a twin December 16, 1918 in Nevis the son of August and Inger (Brattegjerde) Huseth. In 1922 the family moved to Minneapolis where he graduated from North High in 1937. He attended the University on Minnesota prior to entering the Army Air Corps in 1941. He served as a lieutenant overseas in the North African Invasion, in Sicily and in southern Italy. He married Norma Aase March 17, 1944 at Gol Lutheran Church in Kenyon. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to Kenyon. Alfred worked various jobs prior to becoming a city letter carrier, later retiring as Postmaster in 1985. Al was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, was a Sunday school teacher, served as superintendant of Sunday school and was a 50-year member of the church choir. He served as village clerk for over 20 years, served on the city council and the economic development authority. He was a member of the Lions club, was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years and was a life long member of the VFW. He was on the Doctors Committee and active in United Way. Al was the Citizen of the Year in 1994. He enjoyed sports, refinishing and caning furniture, playing bridge and other card games and playing games with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Norma Huseth of Kenyon; daughter, Judy (and Richard) Nelson of Port Orchard, WA; sons, David (and Patsi) Huseth of Edina, Paul (and Diane) Huseth of Rochester, MN, Mark (and Julie) Huseth of St. Cloud; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by a grandson and 3 brothers. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday from 10-11am. Memorial services will be held September 22, 2008 at 11:00am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery.
