Obituary

Alice J. Carlsen, 91, of Kenyon, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Alice was born September 22, 1917 the daughter of Karl and Lena (Remold) Overby on the family farm in rural Kenyon, Alice was baptized, confirmed and a life long member at Gol Lutheran Church. She attended and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1934. Alice was united in marriage to Harry L. Carlsen on July 18, 1941 at Gol Lutheran Church. During WWII, Alice and Harry lived in Galveston, TX where she was the clerk at the PX. Alice worked in Kenyon at Wunderlich''s Grocery, Flick Supermarket and for many years at the Kenyon Sunset Home. She also did volunteer work at the Third World in Kenyon. Alice was active in the Gol Lutheran Church, singing in the choir with her husband, teaching Sunday school and active with the Ladies Aid. She was a Cub Scout leader for her two sons and the typical 'Kool-Aid mom,' making sure everyone always felt welcome in her home. Her husband, Harry, preceded her in death July 18, 2003. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Albright of Medford, OR, Nancy (and Kim) Loftsgaarden of Prior Lake, Mary (and Morrie) Hjermstad of Wanamingo; son, Tom Carlsen of Kenyon; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harry; parents, Karl and Lena; son, Jim in 1996 and two brothers, Cordet and Stanley. She was also preceded in death by many in-laws, relatives and friends. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 5-8pm and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2:00pm at Gol Lutheran Church with Reverend Dan Dimick officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery, Kenyon.
