Alice Hazel Hosfield, 89, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Cedarview Care Center. She was born August 12, 1922 in Caledonia, Minnesota the daughter of Percy and Hazel (Rhines) Hosfield. Alice was a 1941 graduate of Owatonna High School and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield for two years. She worked as a medical secretary at the Mayo Clinic from 1945 to 1952. Alice then moved to Santa Rosa, CA where she worked as a secretary for Sonoma County Welfare Office. She returned to Owatonna in 1954 and worked at Federated Insurance for a short time, and in 1956 went to work for the Steele County Welfare Department where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 1984. Alice liked to walk and walked to and from work daily. She enjoyed traveling, and took many trips. Following her retirement she joined Senior Place and has taken many trips with them. Alice enjoyed reading, watching TV, visiting and eating out with friends and family. She was a member of Associated Church, Owatonna Christian Women, Bethel Joy Club, Steele County Old Timers, Senior Place, and the Opals lunch group at Associated Church. She is survived by her brother John R. (and Doris) Hosfield of Hopkins, sister in law Etta Hosfield of Owatonna, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Charles Hosfield. Memorial service will be held at a later date at Associated Church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
