Obituary

Allen Elwood Berquam, 80, of Kenyon, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. Allen, son of Alfred and Emma (Flom) Berquam, was born on July 17, 1935, at home in Sogn Valley, rural Kenyon. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1952 and started working for the Owatonna/Goodhue Canning Company. He continued to work for the Canning Company for 50 years until his retirement. Allen married Berdell Wille on June 16, 1973, at St. John's United Church of Christ. Allen was one of the founding members of the Kenyon Snowdrifters and thoroughly enjoyed snowmobiling with his friends and family. In the spring and fall he looked forward to helping with planting and harvest on the family farm. His daily schedule wouldn't be complete without morning and afternoon coffee to catch up on the town knowledge. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed eating lutefisk any chance he could. Allen cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, watching them grow up and playing volleyball, softball, and baseball. He taught them a little Norwegian and of course what kind of snowmobile to drive. Allen is survived by his wife of 42 years, Berdell; daughter, Beth (and Dale) Schmoll of Madison Lake; two grandchildren, Allison and Nathan; three brothers, Jim (and Barb) and Dick of Kenyon, Arnie (and Anne) of Cannon Falls; one sister, Mary Jo (and Roger) Meyer of Wayzata; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melroy and infant brother, Alfred Jr. We want to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Kenyon Sunset Home, District One Hospital, and the District One Cancer Center, especially Amy Selly, CNP. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. John's United Church of Christ on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church of Christ, rural Faribault with the Reverend Lora Sturm officiating.
