Obituary

Allen George Wendler, 95, of West Concord, died July 27, 2015 at Mayo Clinic-St. Mary's Campus, Rochester. Allen was born March 25, 1920 in Kenyon the son of Carl and Elsie (Smith) Wendler. Allen attended school in Kenyon and West Concord. After his schooling, he helped farm with his brother Curtis. He entered the United States Army on May 23, 1942 and served during WWII. Allen served in battles and campaigns in Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and received the Bronze Star Medal. He received his honorable discharge on September 23, 1945. He worked for Nutting Truck and Castor in Faribault and then for Leon and Joyce Construction in Rochester. Allen was united in marriage to Dorothy Lambert at Queen of Angels Church, Austin, Minnesota in 1970. Allen retired and the couple remained in West Concord. Allen entered the Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center in February 2015. Allen and Dorothy loved traveling including trips to South Dakota to visit family, Detroit to visit his brother Carlton and sister-in-law, Vernette and also out to California. He also made trips for his army reunions. They attended the Minnesota State Fair for many years as well. He enjoyed his coffee at the local caf�© along with his friends. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Wendler of West Concord; two brothers, Eugene (and Millie) Wendler of Kasson; Luverne (and Nancy) Wendler of Kasson; a step son, Bill (and Judy) Lambert of West Concord; two step-daughters, Barbara (and James) May of Adams; Dianna (and Roger) Jax of Rose Creek; 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Darell, Carlton and Curtis; a step-son, Dan Lambert and two step-daughters, Marilyn Lambert and Julie Fabian. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Kenyon on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 am with The Reverend Dana Houck officiating. Burial will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. Military honors will be provided by the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
