Alvin S. Kvittem, 93, of Wanamingo, Minnesota died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Alvin was born September 2, 1923 in Cherry Grove Township, Minnesota the son of Adolph and Sophie (Haugen) Kvittem. He was baptized and confirmed at Dale Lutheran Church. He attended country school until the age of 16 when he took over the family farm due to his brothers going into the service. Alvin married RuthAnn McLagan on September 10, 1949 at Dale Lutheran Church and were blessed with 62 years of marriage. They farmed in Holden Township, Cherry Grove Township and Wanamingo Township. Alvin was a lifelong member of Dale Lutheran Church where he served on church council. He also served on Cherry Grove Township Board, Kenyon Elevator Board, and long time member of Wanamingo Lions Club. Alvin enjoyed bowling, polka dancing, cheering on the MN Twins, his Norwegian heritage eating lutefisk, klub and lefse, and breakfast at Area 57. He is survived by his children, Debbie (and Mark) Olsen of Nerstrand, Reed (and Jill) Kvittem of Wanamingo; five grandchildren, Dawnae, Tara, Taylor, Brett and Tia; 3 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brothers, Milton Kvittem of Rogers, Duane (and Carol) Kvittem of Winnebago; sister-in-law, Marcy Kvittem of Kenyon. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, RuthAnn; daughter, Dawn; grandson, Dane Underdahl; daughter-in-law, Deb Kvittem; four brothers, Ervin, Myron, Joe, and John Kvittem; two infant sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Dale Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dale Lutheran Church, rural Kenyon with The Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to Dale Lutheran Church.
