Alvis John Moravec was born August 29, 1934 on the family farm in Aurora Township. He lived there all of his life until the last week when at age 79 he died peacefully on August 3, 2014 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna with his family at his bedside. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1952. He married Bertha Dahlke on July 5, 1959. He farmed all of his life. He raised hogs in the early years, showing them at the fair. He also had a dairy herd. He belonged to the National Farmers Organization. He also worked at Owatonna Tool Co. for many years and later at Truth Hardware until his retirement from there. But his heart was in farming. He liked airplanes from childhood on, especially planes of the World War II era. He enjoyed going to air shows and museums. He also had an interest in trains. He enjoyed camping and vacation trips. He was a faithful husband and an honest man. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Wife, Bertha, survives him as well as son, Bruce (Renee) Moravec, Marion, IA; daughters, Debbie Nelson, Owatonna, Laurie Moravec, Owatonna, Amy (Peter) Scarborough, La Crosse, WI; grandchildren, Christopher (Crystal) Nelson, April Scarborough, Teresa Scarborough. Also great grandchildren, Danica, Jerica and Christian Nelson; sister Delores Neubauer, Owatonna and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father and mother Dominik and Mathilda (Hammann) Moravec. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Warren Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
