Amy Marjorie (Ullestad) Boyum, 81,of Kenyon passed away at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Red Wing, Minnesota, on November 7, 2017.
She was born on April 27, 1936, on her family's farm in Thompson, Iowa, to John and Sophia Ullestad. She graduated from Thompson High School in 1953. After high school, she attended Lutheran Bible Institute and proceeded to attend Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital.
On October 27, 1962, she was united in marriage to Goodwin Boyum, and they raised 3 boys, Steven and (Tracy Shelstad) of Wanamingo, Bruce and (fianc�© Carrie Foss) of Kenyon, and Timothy and (Heather Mohler) of Kenyon. They began farming in rural Peterson, MN and relocated their farm to rural Kenyon in 1965. Amy was a homemaker and a nurse at the Kenyon Sunset Home.
Amy was very involved at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Kenyon, MN in the WMF organization, and ladies aid. She kept very busy making endless crafts, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and knitting projects as well as baking, cooking, decorating cakes, and gardening. She liked to relax by playing the piano, organ, or swinging on the porch while playing her accordion. She also enjoyed traveling and was able to travel to Norway with her family in 1976 to visit several relatives. After her family had grown, she resumed using her nursing skills at Zumbrota Health Care and in home health care. She most enjoyed spending time with family and helping them in a variety of projects.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sophia (Ness) Ullestad; her husband, Goodwin; five sisters, an infant sister, Martha, Olive, Judith, and 2 brothers, Thomas and Jonas.
She is survived by three sons; eight grandchildren, Kristin, Kari, Hannah, Benjamin, Samantha, Daniel, John and Bethany; five sisters, Alice Johnson of Mankato, MN, Jennie Ullestad of Mankato, MN, Stella (Thomas) Dahl of Blue Earth, Mavis (Rev. Richard) Erickson of Edina, MN, Clara (Dale) Gettis of Mason City, IA; sister-in-law Rosella (Jonas) Ullestad of Hanlontown, IA and brother-in-law, Roger Graber of Forest City, IA.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Red Wing and Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island for all of the kind and thorough care they provided for Amy.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 12 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday. The funeral will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (Asplund) of rural Kenyon, Monday, November 13 at 10:30AM with Pastor Gideon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Arendahl Cemetery of rural Peterson, MN. Refreshments to follow after both the service and burial.
