Anita Jean Swedberg, 86, of Owatonna, died Friday, December 13, 2019 at Birchwood Cottages. She was born October 19, 1933 in Youngsville, Pennsylvania the daughter of Plumer and Bernice (Dilker) Mourer. She grew up in Youngsville where she graduated from high school in 1951. After high school, she worked for a year at a mail order catalog company and then went to nursing school, graduating from the Swedish Covenant School of Nursing in Chicago with an RN degree. She then worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago until 1956. She married John Swedberg on May 2, 1957 in Youngsville. The couple made their home in Scottsbluff, NE, until 1965 when they moved to Minnesota and purchased a dairy farm in Deerfield Township northwest of Owatonna. She worked alongside her husband, John, in all aspects of the farm along with raising her children. She was a member of Christ Community Free Church in Waseca where she played the organ and piano and was a cook at Camp Victory near Zumbro Falls. Anita was also involved with the 4H program and Senior Place in Owatonna. She enjoyed gardening and being outside, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and canning. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and serving others any way she could. She is survived by her children, Richard (and Kathy) Swedberg of Denver, Angeline Velander of Portland, Debra (and Leland) Schlager of Scottsbluff, Sandra (and Kenneth) Mongeau of Owatonna, Timothy Swedberg of Owatonna, Robert (and Anne) Swedberg of Owatonna, and Carl Swedberg of New York City; brother, David (and Judy) Mourer of Youngsville; 21 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Plumer and Bernice and husband, John Swedberg. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM and on Thursday from 10-11 AM. Funeral services will be held December 19, 2019 at 11 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Jim Barnhart officiating. Interment will be in the Hoffman Cemetery in Deerfield Township. Memorials are preferred to Camp Victory or donor's choice.
