Anna Marie Laugeson, 99, of Waite Park, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at her home. She was born May 6, 1909 in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Erick and Anna (Crouse) Bowman. Anna was raised on a farm near Claremont and moved to Owatonna as a young child. She graduated from Owatonna High School. Anna worked at the Owatonna State School and Orphanage and also worked for her father at Bowman Laboratories. Anna married Clarence Laugeson in 1938 at her family's home on Bridge Street. She and Clarence frequently ventured to the north woods on Pleasant Lake near Hackensack and eventually begin creating Laugeson's Pleasant Pines Resort one cabin at a time. They also opened the Driftwood Motel and Gift Shop in Hackensack where Anna sold many of her beautiful driftwood carvings and creations, which earned her the nickname "Driftwood Anna." They operated the resort until 1979. Upon the sale of their resort they moved to Plymouth. The couple wintered for many years at their home in Arizona. Anna traveled frequently for many years and has been residing in Plymouth until her recent move to the St.Cloud area to be near her granddaughter, Kari. She was a hard working and creative businesswoman who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved the north woods and the beauty of God's natural world. Anna always brightened a room with her lovely smile and bright eyes. She is survived by her son, Robert (and Floy) Laugeson of Owatonna; granddaughters, Kari (and Fiance Dean Dresow) Dombrovski of St. Cloud, Kelly (and Scott) Wood of Erie, CO, Elizabeth Laugeson of Santa Barbara, CA; great granddaughter, Kelsea Dombrovski of St. Cloud; niece, Cleone Buchkolz of Owatonna. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, 1 daughter, 1 son, 1 sister and 3 brothers. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday from 10-11am. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:00am at Michaelson Funeral Home with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
