Annette Arlene Kubista , 83, of Owatonna, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Traditions in Owatonna, Minnesota.
She was born January 27, 1931 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Richard and Agnes (Spindler) Sommer. Annette's mother died in October of 1935. She and her sister, Berneta, went to stay with her grandparents in Lemond Township. She attended District #54 country school to the 3rd grade, then Lincoln School in Owatonna and Owatonna High School. She married Jerome Joseph Kubista on December 30, 1947 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Owatonna. In their union they had ten children. Annette worked for various business throughout her life including: Rand Bowling Alley, JC Penney, Kummeth Manufacturing, Josten's, OTC, Owatonna Canning Company, skinned mink for 14 seasons, Employment Office, Schultz's Family Store, Prange Way, and for nine years worked for her sons at Wagner's Lunch and Pool Hall. She also sold toys and clothing seasonally. Annette considered herself a jack of all trades and master of none.
Annette's pride and joy was her family and she loved caring for them. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and made afghans for everyone in her family. Annette and Jerome also enjoyed traveling and visited 40 states.
She was very active in Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years, member of Eagles #1791 for 40 years, and served as past president and past District president, was named Outstanding Member and Outstanding Mrs. Eagle Member, which she received in 2002. Annette was proud to continue her education and attended night school to earn her High School Diploma in 1976.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Kubista of Owatonna; children, David (Debi) Kubista of Rochester, Michael (Sherry) Kubista of Owatonna, Julie Kubista (Richard Michael) of Owatonna, Mark (Tammy) Kubista of Mankato, Kari Sletten of Ellendale, Laurie (Bob) Evenson of Owatonna, Jolene Kennedy of Eagan, and twins, Dennis (Karyn) Kubista of Owatonna, and Daniel (Sandie) Kubista of Owatonna; 26 Grandchildren; 31 Great Grandchildren; half brother, Delbert Sommer of Owatonna; many extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Denise Kubista, sister, Berneta Yess, infant granddaughter, infant grandson, and son-in-law, Allan Sletten.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. The Catholic Daughters of America will be reciting the rosary at 3:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity, American Cancer Society, St. Mary's Catholic School or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
