Obituary

Arlene M (Rothi) Anderson, 91, died peacefully at Owatonna Homestead House with her family beside her on Sunday, November, 8 2015. Arlene was born to Jacob (Jake) & Laura (Frank) Rothi on October 18, 1924 in Bismarck, ND. She attended country school in Braddock, ND and Wadena, MN. Her family moved to Owatonna and she graduated from OHS in 1942. She continued her education at Mankato Business School in Accounting. Arlene worked at Christgau Drug Store & 1st National Bank. She met her future husband, Frank, while working at the bank. After a whirlwind courtship she married her love on June 30, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. In 1948 Arlene & Frank purchased a small grocery store which they ran for 24 years on the corner of Oak & Holly in Owatonna. After retirement she worked at Owatonna High School as the kitchen manager until 1984. Arlene was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna where she had been active in Trinity Church Ladies Aid, Circles, & Alter Guild holding an office in all at one time at one time or another. She also became American Cancer Society crusade chair & memorial chair. She was also a member of Elks Ladies and Eastern Star. Arlene enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, doing hardanger, needlepoint, & cross stitch. She also enjoyed watching wheel of Fortune with a friend. She was proud of and so loved all of her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, son and daughter-in-law David and Carolyn (Carie) Anderson, brothers Palmer & Marvin Rothi, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and four nieces. Arlene is survived by her daughter, Christena (Tena) (Gene) Hager of Owatonna. Grandsons Ron (Brenda) Hager, Bob (Dawn) Hager, both of Owatonna, and Dan (Bobbie) Hager of Medford; great-grandkids, Jennifer, Cody (Jamie), Cassie, Jessie, Faith, Clare & Lydia Hager. Sister-in-law Phyllis Anderson of Albert Lea, brother-in-law LaVern Hoff of St Louis Park, & many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Homestead House Patient Care Funds, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's, or donor's choice.
