Arlene Esther Balzer, 84, of Owatonna, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born March 8, 1930 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Peterson) Johnson. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1947. Arlene married Lawrence Balzer on August 24, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. They farmed in Merton Township and Arlene worked beside her husband on the dairy farm. In 2013, Arlene resided at the Brooks in Owatonna. Arlene enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family, going to the casinos, fishing up north, traveling, watching her grandchildren, reading, gardening, canning and baking buns. She was a member of the Merton Community Club and Moland Lutheran Church. She is survived by her six children, Linda (and Robert) Noble of Faribault, Larry (and Sue) Balzer of Blooming Prairie, David (and Susan) Balzer of Owatonna, Rick (and Cathy) Balzer of Owatonna, Doug (and Mickey) Balzer of Rochester, Jodi (and Doug) Starks of Owatonna; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Donna (and Irv) Arndt of Owatonna; brother, Maynard (and Judy) Johnson of Blooming Prairie; sister-in-law, Gail Johnson of Blooming Prairie; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (2012), parents, brothers, Bernell and Elmer of Blooming Prairie and a great granddaughter, Macey Balzer. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Moland Lutheran Church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Salvation Army, or donor's choice.
