Arlie Oscar Flom, 96, of Kenyon, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Kenyon Sunset Home. He was born September 25, 1912 in Holden Township, Minnesota the son of Carl and Martha (Ohnstad) Flom. Arlie graduated from Kenyon High School and later graduated from the University of Minnesota. He married Julia Blakstad June 28, 1941 in Zumbrota. The couple lived briefly in Baltimore, Maryland and Pine City, Minnesota before returning to his family farm in Holden Township. Arlie farmed for many years with his brother, Clarence while teaching in area schools. In addition to teaching, Arlie was principal at the Nerstrand School. He was a member of MEA and Holden Lutheran Church. Arlie mowed the church cemetery for many years. He enjoyed flowers and gardening. Arlie is survived by his son, Dennis Flom of Golden Valley; grandson, Ross (and Helen) Flom of Provo, UT; sister, Inez Mills of Northfield and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters. Visitation will be at Holden Lutheran Church on Saturday from 12pm to 1pm. Funeral services will be held September 5, 2009 at 1:00pm at Holden Lutheran Church with The Reverend Michael Lockerby officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon.
