Avis Spilde, age 96, of Owatonna, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at Traditions of Owatonna.
Avis was born November 20, 1918 in Dodge County, Minnesota the daughter of Gulick and Vera (Ruport) Gullickson. She was raised in Dodge Center and also attended school there. Following school, she cleaned at the bank in Dodge Center. Avis was united in marriage to Royce Wernecke in 1952. He passed away in 1975. Avis moved to Austin where she worked as a nanny. There she met Burt Spilde and the couple married in 1980. They moved to Halma, Minnesota. She loved living in Halma and the small town atmosphere. In 1994, Burt died and shortly after, she moved to Owatonna.
Avis enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. She loved all of her grandchildren and enjoyed being with them.
She is survived by three daughters, Paula Schmoll (and Merl Erdman) of Owatonna; Betty (and Larry) Hegna of Austin; Lois Katon of Fallon, NV; a sister, Phyllis Elias of Zumbrota; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Royce and Burt; a son, Randy Wernecke and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.
