Obituary

Born April 3, 1956 – Passed May 28, 2025

Bernardo Segura Jr. was born on April 3, 1956 — the day he was welcomed into this world and into life. He was born in Weslaco, TX down in the tip of south Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). Dad was a former Marine — a father, a son, a brother, a fighter, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and the strongest man we all knew.

Personally, he was my protector, my personal bodyguard growing up, and one of the funniest guys I knew. Some might think differently because they have their own fond memories of him. He had a forgiving past. During his time here on Earth, he learned from his mistakes and made amends. Nobody's perfect here, but I know he made it a point to bond with us and make things right. If God can forgive us of all our sins, then who are we to cast the first stone? (John 8:7)

With this said, he was someone who wasn't afraid to take a leap. He wandered this country alone. He traveled the roads for so many years of his life. No walls could keep him from exploring every city and town. If we didn't hear from him — it was good news. When we did hear from him — it was great news.

Dad was a comedian at heart. Growing up, he never let me forget that he had a nickname for each one of us kids. He would recall many childhood memories we left him with as we got older. He used to say, or leave in our voicemails, this quote that made us laugh so hard: "If you hear me… I'm the MASTER WARRIOR. I'm rough and I'm tough. I'm vicious and delicious. I'm every man's nightmare and every woman's desire. I'm the KING of the jungle, the AYATOLLA of rock and rolla, the DUKE of funk, and the MASTER of disaster! Anybody got a beef, hit up the DAWG. Bring it—don't sing it. FEEL ME!"

That was him. Bold. Fearless. Funny. One of a kind. Even as time changed and his body began to slow down, that fire never left.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 1:40 PM, Dad's spirit left his body and rejoiced with God. It's been a hard time trying to cope with the fact that he will no longer be with us. We are grieving and aching from broken hearts, but we are also rejoicing in his pain-free spirit once again.

Bernardo Segura Jr. is survived by his seven children: Angie Lee Rivera, April (Jose) Lou Segura-Zamudio, Annet (Gus) Lyn Alejandro, Lonnie (Alyssa) Segura, Abbie Liz Segura, Lynsey (Justin) Linde, and Eddie Sladek. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Irma Hawkins, Estella Ybarra, Ida Miller, Tina Cuellar, and Norma Cuellar; and his brothers: Rolando (Letty) Segura, Ricky Segura, Robert Segura, and Edward Segura.

Bernardo is preceded in death by his parents, Olivia Cuellar and Bernardo Segura Sr.; his sister, Ofelia Waters; and his brother's, Ruben Garces and Raul Segura Sr.

Per Dad's request, he did not want a service. His ashes will be equally divided among all his kids. We all live in different parts of the country — so in a sense, he will be scattered bits of everywhere. He would have loved that.

Be free, Dad!

You will be missed dearly.

See you on the flip side, as you would say.
