Bernice Alma Jystad, 91, of Kenyon, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Northridge View Assisted Living in Kenyon surrounded by loving family. She was born December 29, 1925 in Ripley Township, Dodge County, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Selma (Schroeder) Keck. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Claremont High School. She later attended nursing school. Bernice worked at Josten's Defense Plant during the war, and later at the Kenyon Sunset Home. Bernice married Philip Sahl on March 14, 1946 and they had five children together. They lost Philip in a construction accident in 1956. She married Lloyd Jystad on June 16, 1958 and they completed the family with son, Daniel. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and time with her family was her greatest delight. She was an incredibly strong woman of great faith, and she enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. She was a member of Gol Lutheran Church and Lois Circle. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael (Joan) Sahl of Plano, TX, Linda (Larry) Bennett of Rotonda West, FL, Julie (Mark) Huseth of St. Cloud, Thomas (Linnea) Sahl of Kenyon, Terry (Jackie) Sahl of Stewartville and Daniel (Sarah) Jystad of Kenyon; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Keck, Lester Keck, Delores Jensen, and Barbara Lennon and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and siblings Earl Keck, Kenneth Keck, Marvin Keck, Marlene Keck, Helen Sahl and Mary Ann Yocum. A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM and at church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Gol Lutheran Church with Reverend Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery.
