Betty Jean Engvall, 90, of West Concord, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at her home. Betty was born October 1, 1922 in Williams, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Hattie (Rhodes) Bell. In 1925 the family moved to Springbrook, WI, where they lived until moving to rural West Concord in 1928. She was a graduate of West Concord High School and the Minneapolis Business College. Betty was employed at the Minneapolis Gas Company. Betty married Owen Engvall on Nov. 6, 1948 at the Weslayan Methodist Church in Minneapolis. They lived on the farm which they later purchased from her parents. She stayed on the farm after her husband passed away and lived there for a total of 56 years. She moved into town in 2006. Betty was a member of the united Methodist Church and a 50 plus year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was a Boy Scout den mother. Betty is survived by her children, Marilyn (and David) Bue of Princeton, James (and DeAnn) Engvall of West Concord, Robert (and Janet) Engvall of Barrington, RI, William (and Jane) Engvall of Alexandria, VA, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, George William Bell; sisters, Marjorie Lacarelli, Vylice Urch. Visitation will be at United Methodist Church, West Concord on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, West Concord with The Reverend David Westlake officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
