Betty Jane Grunwald, 88, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at the Apple Valley Villa in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Betty was born April 12, 1928 in Winona, Minnesota the daughter of William and Rose (Keller) Rihs. Betty worked alongside her future husband, Earl Heller at Haddads Cleaners in Winona. In 1946, they were married and in their union had four children, James, Jack, Joal, and Cindy. They moved with the family to Owatonna in 1959. Earl died June 8, 1967. Betty married Stewart Stu Grunwald on September 29, 1967 in Owatonna and in their union had a daughter, Kelli. Stewart died September 17, 1982. Betty worked at various businesses including HyVee bakery. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Senior Place. She enjoyed quilting, counted cross stich, word search, pottery, bingo, watching the MN Twins and camping adventures with her husband, Stu. She is survived by her children, James (Suzanne) Heller of Owatonna, Jack (Laurie) Heller of Duluth, Joal Heller of Winona, Cindy Hendrickson of Temple, TX, and Kelli (Chad) Johnson of Lakeville; two stepchildren, Allan and Judy; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl and Stewart; sister, Ruth Rihs. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Todd Buegler officiating.
