Betty J. Matzke, 67, of Owatonna, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at her home in Owatonna. She was born June 22, 1943 in Pittsburg, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Tieman) Gaskell. She graduated Keosauqua High School in Keosauqua, Iowa in 1962. She then moved to Ottumwa, Iowa and was married to Dean Baumgart on October 10, 1965. They moved to Medford and Dean died May 9, 1976. Betty worked as a manager at Medford Liquor Store then Rite-Way Packaging in Northfield. She married Carl Matzke on July 1, 2000. They made their home in Owatonna where she worked at Owatonna Tool Company then Safe Air Repair in Albert Lea. Betty was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and her dog and two cats. She is survived by her husband, Carl Matzke of Owatonna; four children, Kimberly (and Bradly) Stiles of Springfield, Dena (and Donald) Ress of Owatonna, Nicole (and Derek) Jensen of Owatonna, Joshua Babcock of Owatonna; nine grandchildren, Branden, Shannon, and Cameron Stiles, Autumn and Austin Ress, Kayla and Macey Jensen, Cecilia and Amelia McKenna; two sisters, Barb Haynes of Fort Laramie, Wyoming and June (and Jim) McIntosh of McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Dean Baumgart, four brothers, Charles, James, Richard and Robert Gaskell. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM . Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Greg Schlicker officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
