Betty J. Rand, 81, of Claremont, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at her home. Betty was born September 13, 1930 near Claremont, Minnesota the daughter of Herbert and Myrtle (Wincel) Hallaway. She was raised near Claremont and attended country school. She then attended Dodge Center High School graduating in 1948. She then worked for a short while in Claremont at the local bank. Betty was united in marriage to Herbert Rand on July 15, 1949 at the Presbyterian Church in Claremont. They made their home in Ripley Township where the couple farmed. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed puzzle books, word finds and crossword puzzles, watching the Minnesota Vikings, the Polka Joe television show, cooking, sewing, gardening and listening to country music. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Rand of Claremont; a son, Herbert S. (and Rebecca) Rand of Owatonna; three daughters, Candace Cole of Eagan; Crystal (and Dean) Gansen of Kasson; Caprice (and Nathan) Biehn of Jordan; 16 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (and Janet) Hallaway of Claremont; Dennis Hallaway of Eagle Lake; and a sister, Joan (and Brian) Rech of Nemo, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Vickie Rand (2009), a sister, Grace Kramer and a brother, Donald Hallaway. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 6, 2011from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 7 at 1:30 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
