Beverly B. Lueth, age 85, died peacefully of natural causes on Sunday July 10, in hospice care at St. Andrew's Village in Mahtomedi, MN. Her 10 year battle with dementia had taken its toll; her prayers to go to heaven were answered. Beverly was born on July 9, 1931 in Lu Verne, Iowa, to Walter and Minnie Lenz. The Lenz family soon moved to Southern Minnesota where she grew up as a farm girl near Fairmont, MN. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949 and attended Mankato State Teachers College where she received her associate teaching certificate in 1951. She married Maynard R. Lueth on August 19, 1951 in Fairmont, MN. The couple lived for a year in Brookings, SD where Beverly began her teaching career while Maynard finished his engineering degree at South Dakota State University. Upon Maynard's graduation they moved to Seattle, WA where Maynard was employed as a design engineer for Boeing Aircraft Corp. In 1954 the couple returned to Fairmont where Maynard was employed as Assistant City Engineer. In 1959 they moved to Worthington, MN where Maynard became City Engineer and Beverly returned to her teaching career working at the Worthington Crippled Children's School. Beverly continued her education with varied course work in special education, primarily for the visually impaired. During the summer semester of 1966 she attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus, and became a Certified Teacher of Blind & Visually Handicapped Students. She spent one summer semester at Boston College and thoroughly enjoyed the change of scenery from the Minnesota countryside. In 1968 the family moved to Owatonna where Maynard became city Engineer of Owatonna and Beverly's teaching career lead to being the Coordinator of Services for Visually Impaired students in several school districts. Beverly loved vocal music and had a wonderful soprano voice. She was sought out in her early teens as a soloist for weddings and special events and was often the soloist for choral pieces. She participated in and directed church choirs in Worthington and Owatonna for most of her adult life. Occasionally she ventured into musical theater and was a member of the Roger Tenney Chorale for 8 years. The Maynard & Beverly Lueth Musical Endowment Fund has been established at Good Shepherd Lutheran to continue their music ministry. Bev loved to travel. In the 1970's they started spending several months of the year in Arkansas, where they owned various acreages and homes over the years. Also about that time they started their annual winter trip to Mexico. By 2005 they owned 4 timeshare weeks in the Puerto Vallarta area. They also took several trips to Europe. In the 1990's she opened Bev's Playhouse, a seasonal craft shop on their North Cedar property. Her love of gardening caused her to participate in several Owatonna garden tours. With Maynard she trained and showed American Saddlebred horses for 50 years. A highlight was riding in the 1980 Rose Bowl Parade.
Bev was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard in 2009, her sister Jean Wahl, brother Dale Lenz, and parents. She is survived by her son Randy Lueth (Jill Meilahn) of Marshfield, WI, daughter Cynthia (Allan) Hammel of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren, Andrea (Jon) Wollak, Nathan (Nadja Baer) Lueth, Christopher (Erin) Lueth, Joseph (Allison) Hammel and four great grandchildren, Aemilia Wollak, Augustus Wollak, Lily Hammel and Katja Lueth.
