Borgny D. Stangler, 96, of Owatonna, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born March 17, 1914 in Bergen, Norway the daughter of Olaf and Dorthea (Johansen) Kristiansen. In 1932, she married Freydar Bergesen in Norway. Fredyar died in 1947. Borgny immigrated to Owatonna, Minnesota in 1951 and worked at Uber Glove. She married Leonard Stangler in 1952 and they lived on his farm by Pratt. Leonard died in 1966. She then worked as a seamstress at Elwood Star Cleaners for twenty-two years, where everyone there was like her second family. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and charter member of Sons of Norway since 1970. Borgny enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, gardening and travelling. She made several trips back to Norway to visit family and friends. She is survived by her two daughters, Inger Pearson of Dodge Center and Nina Zak of Owatonna; three grandchildren, Judy (and Tom) Kropiwka, John (and Ann) Pearson, and Paul (and Jill) Zak; eight great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren and their families, Karen, Kathy, Leo Jr., Tim, Linda, Dick, and Sandy; three nieces, Turid, Wenche, and Alicen and their families. Special thanks to Linda and Clyde Christofferson, Carol Raetz, and Pat Wuger. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Freydor Bergesen, second husband, Leonard Stangler, three brothers, Alfred, John, and Harold Kristiansen, step son, Leo Stangler, and step daughter, Emily Suess. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Steele Center Cemetery in Somerset Township. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church or Homestead Hospice House. 'Blessed Be Her Memory'
