Calvin George Spatenka, 84, of Owatonna, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born June 16, 1925 in Owatonna the son of George and Vlasta (Kubat) Spatenka. Calvin married Arlene Rasmussen Sept. 10, 1946 in Blooming Prairie. The couple farmed together following their marriage. Calvin worked as a mechanic at John's Automotive and was a heavy equipment operator for many years. He enjoyed participating in and watching antique tractor pulls and threshing bees. He was member of the Eagle's Club and ZCBJ. Calvin thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his son's shop, Sput''s Performance Machine. Most of all, Calvin loved spending time with his family and his two granddaughters. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Spatenka of Owatonna; son, Mark (and Cheri) Spatenka of Owatonna; granddaughters, Sara Spatenka, Lauren Spatenka; brothers, Robert Spatenka of Owatonna, John (and Janice) Spatenka of Blooming Prairie; sisters, Mary Ann Copp of Owatonna, Donna Wobschall of Medford, Katherine (and Rod) Kyllo of Owatonna, Patricia (and David) Bock of Owatonna and many nieces and nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday from 2pm to 6pm and at Bethel Church on Sunday from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 1:30pm at Bethel Church with Pastor Josh Amstutz officiating. Interment will be in the Dania Cemetery in Havana Township.
