Carl R. Oeltjenbruns, 87, of Owatonna, passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 at Valleyview Assisted Living in Owatonna. He was born December 15, 1927 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to William and Minnie (Ehlers) Oeltjenbruns. With his family he moved to various places including California for a short time. The family finally settled in Meriden Township, Owatonna, Minnesota. As a young man he hauled milk for the Meriden Creamery. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a radio operator. Carl married his beloved wife, Verna Wilker on April 1, 1951, while he was home on leave from the service. With his wife at his side, he became a successful farmer, milking cows and raising pigs. Eventually they got out of the livestock, but continued crop farming. Carl was very active in his younger years on various boards, country school, church, and grains and grasses with the Steele County Fair.
He is survived by three children, Carleen (Jon) Stout of Colleyville, TX, Sheri (Tom) Karnowski of Eden Prairie, and Leslie (Karla) Oeltjenbruns of Owatonna; grandchildren, Shane (Shelley) Stout, Caitlin Stout, Kalen (Erin) Karnowski, Braxton Karnowski, Britonya Karnowski, Jon (Tracy) Oeltjenbruns and Tyler Oeltjenbruns; two great grandchildren, Lesley Oeltjenbruns and Logan Stout. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patricia Oeltjenbruns, Lillie Oeltjenbruns, and Pearl Oeltjenbruns and his brother-in-law, Gene Wilker.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verna, six brothers, and his granddaughter.
Visitation will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Meriden on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Patti Meyer officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Meriden with military honors conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Meriden.
