Carl Alvin Strand, 87, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Alterra Sterling House. He was born March 13, 1922 in California the son of Alvin and Helga (Swendsen) Strand. Carl grew up in Bayport, Minnesota and later graduated from Augsburg College. He taught school in Duluth for many years. Carl moved to Owatonna ten years ago. Carl was also a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. Carl enjoyed baseball, football, the outdoors, reading and traveling. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Duluth for many years. He is survived by his wife, Marilynn (Nelson) Strand of Owatonna; daughters, Mary (and George) Alland of Woodbury, Karen Miller of Deltona, FL; son, David Strand of Owatonna; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday August 20, 2009 from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 2:00pm at Michaelson Funeral Home with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating.
