Carolyn J. Anderson, 80, of Owatonna, died Saturday, April 13, 2019 at her residence in Ecumen Brooks.
Carolyn Jessie was born December 15, 1938 in St. Paul, the daughter of John and Amelia (Scherfenberg) Mills. She attended and graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and went on to attend Minneapolis Business College. After her schooling, she did the bookkeeping for a pediatrician's office in Minneapolis. Carolyn married David P. Anderson on December 15, 1961. They moved to Owatonna in 1973 where Carolyn worked as an administrative assistant at Owatonna Savings and Loan (later People's). In 1989, the couple moved to Bangladesh for David's work, and lived there until 1991. In 1996, they moved overseas again, this time to the Philippines, and stayed there for a year. In 1997, the couple returned to Owatonna, where Carolyn worked for C&M Insurance before retiring.
Carolyn enjoyed her community and took great pride in it. She was a frequent volunteer, serving as an active member of Associated Church and singing in their choir for many years. She also volunteered with Grandparents for Education, as well as for the Steele County Historical Society, where she gave tours at the Village of Yesteryear.
Carolyn is survived by son, Charles (Susan) Anderson of Boulder, CO; brother, James (Donna) Mills of Hutchinson; sister, Mary Beale of Palm Coast, FL; nephews, William Mills, Michael Mills, and John Beale; and niece, Carolyn Beale.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, David.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7pm and at Associated Church on Wednesday from 10-11am. Funeral services will be held April 17, 2019 at 11am at The Associated Church with Pastor Jim D. Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Steele County Historical Society.
