Carroll Ruth Janke, 89, of Owatonna, died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living.
She was born June 14, 1929 in Owatonna the daughter of Hugh and Elsie (Nussloch) Ferguson. Carroll graduated from Owatonna High School. She married Harold L. Janke Dec. 30, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple farmed together on the Janke family farm until retiring in 1997, just after the farm was recognized as a Century Farm. In addition to raising her family and helping on the farm, she worked for 20 years at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company retiring in 1978. Carroll took great pride in caring for the farmstead and enlisting her sons to help make sure it always looked nice.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Worth While Extension Club. Family was Carroll's greatest joy in life. She loved reading to her kids and grandkids, being active in 4-H with her boys, making afghans and dresses for her grandchildren, and playing games like UNO and Slap the Birdie with them as well. Carroll enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her sons, David (and Lois) Janke of Owatonna, Daniel (and Sandy) Janke of Owatonna; grandchildren, Stephanie (and Todd) Nelson, Jennifer (and Josh) Dalluge, Jessica (and Dillan) McCoy, David Janke, Jr., Michael (and Allison) Janke, Christine (and Dustin) Sletten, Kim Larson, Katie Hoffman; step grandchild, Amy (and Greg) Young; 25 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, William Ferguson of Odin and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.
Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:30am at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or to the donor's choice.
