Charles Junior Armstrong, 81, of West Concord, and long-time resident of Merton Township passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Twin Rivers Senior Campus in Cannon Falls, with his family by his side. "Junior" as he was known, was born September 2, 1937 in Colchester, Illinois the son of Charles and Mary (Kerbs) Armstrong. Junior attended and graduated from Plymouth High School, IL, in 1955. He moved to West Concord in 1957 from Colchester, IL with his family where they began the family farm. Junior was in the Army Reserves before dedicating his life to farming. He married Sandra Walker on June 25, 1966 in Owatonna, MN and they farmed together for over 33 years and had three children. Junior's passion for farming was apparent to anyone he met. He had the gift of gab who could easily make conversation with just about anyone. He also enjoyed playing cards and getting together with his Farm Group friends, watching college basketball, and traveling, whether that be to Arizona for the winter, taking a Sunday drive or traveling to out of state farm shows. He also enjoyed traveling to see his family in Colorado. Junior took great pride in the Merton Township. He enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends, and loved his family. He is survived by his children, Valerie (John) DiDonato of Manchester, CT, Aaron (Amanda) Armstrong of Owatonna, and Alvin (Jenny) Armstrong of West Concord; grandchildren, Charlie and Joe; sister, Betty Armstrong of Chicago; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Sandra Armstrong. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8pm and on Friday from 1-2pm. Funeral services will be held April 19, 2019 at 2pm at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment will be in the Merton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Kenyon Volunteer Fire Department or to the Moland Lutheran Church.
