Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Charles R. DeVries, who died on March 19, 2026, at the age of 65.

Charles was born on August 3, 1960, to Robert and Pauline (Parker) DeVries in Muskegon, MI and was a cherished brother, uncle, and good friend. Known for his humor, kindness, dedication, frugal spending habits, and living minimally, he touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Chuck graduated from Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, MI in 1978, and then left for college in Colorado Springs, CO, ultimately making his home in Owatonna, MN.

He spent his working career in the glass manufacturing business, starting off at Marcon Coatings and Viracon for 28 years, and then Sage Glass for the past 10 years. An avid outdoorsman, Charles found joy in the beauty of nature, often spending time hiking and backpacking with his brother Bob, at places like Lake Harbor Park, and Hoffmaster State Park in Michigan. He also enjoyed walks on the park trails in Owatonna with his good friend JT. Charles had a special love for the water, especially the shores of Lake Michigan.

Throughout his life, Charles was devoted to family, his friends, and the work he did at Marcon Coatings, Viracon, and Sage Glass. He took great pride in caring for and growing many plants he cultivated throughout the years. If he ever left home there were always very precise instructions left for his friends on how to care for his plants in his absence. His presence will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he impacted.

Charles is survived by his sister Kathleen Kozak; sister-in-law, Sheila DeVries; niece, Marianne Barkholz; nephew, Tom (Amy) Beckmann; 3 great nieces, 1 great nephew, 2 great great nieces, 1 great great nephew, close friends James "JT" Terrones, Jeff Smith, and Kristie Davis, and special friends Terese and Addie Farr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pauline DeVries, and his brother Bob DeVries.

Because of his love for the park trails in Owatonna, anyone wanting to do something in memory of Charles is suggested to consider doing something for the trails, maintained by the Owatonna Parks and Recreation https://www.owatonna.gov/304/Trails.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, and prayers received during this difficult time. Share memories with the family at www.michaelsonfuneral.com.
