Obituary

Charles Richard Waddell, 70, of Owatonna, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Owatonna Hospital. He was born November 29, 1946 in Mansfield, Ohio the son of Richard and Fleurette (Dube) Waddell. Chuck graduated from high school in Crestline, OH. Shortly thereafter he served in the US Army as a MP K-9 handler with the 212th MP Company in Vinh Long, Vietnam, from 1967-1968. During his military service he met Michele Langer. Charles married Michele June 26, 1970 at St. Dominic Church in Northfield. The couple made their home in Ohio until moving to Owatonna in 1978 at which time Chuck started working for OTC. He worked for OTC for 36 years primarily as a shipping clerk until retiring in 2014. He was affectionately known as the "Dock Cop" by his co-workers. While working, Chuck also enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and a Park and Rec Coach. He was an avid sports fan who used to cheer on the Ohio teams but now was a supporter of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He liked fishing, reading books and bicycling. Chuck loved the TV show M.A.S.H. and taking trips to the casino. Chuck was very proud of the accomplishments his children and grandchildren achieved. He is survived by his wife, Michele Waddell of Owatonna; daughter, Jennifer (and Donald) Black of Owatonna; sons, Dr. Michael (and Dr. Jennifer Rotondo) Waddell of Granger, IN, Zach (and Bridget) Waddell of Owatonna; grandchildren, Grace, Olivia, Sophia Waddell, Alexander, Faith, Elijah Black; sister, Betty (and Eugene) Hollingsworth of Mt. Gilead, OH; brothers, Donald Waddell of Mansfield, OH, Ric (and Jill) Waddell of Lawrenceville, GA; mother in law, Alice Langer along with her children and their partners and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Joseph Waddell; parents, Richard and Fleurette Waddell; father in law, Don Langer. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday from 10am to 11am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with The Reverend John Sauer officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Visitation: 01/04/2017 16:00 01/04/2017 19:00 Service: and one hour prior to the service at the church. 01/05/2017 11:00
