Chiwako Kondo Resler, 84, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at her daughter's home in Owatonna.
Chiwako was born March 10, 1930 in Tokyo, Japan. She met her future husband, Lloyd John Resler, while he was stationed in Tokyo during the Korean War. They were married in 1956 at the Embassy in Tokyo. After obtaining her United States Citizenship, Chiwako moved to the United States by ship in March of 1957. She arrived in California and met Lloyd in Kansas. They traveled to Owatonna and resided in Pratt Township, where they farmed. Chiwako was a full time homemaker and raised five children. In 1968, they moved to Owatonna. Lloyd died October 16, 1978. Chiwako worked at various businesses in Owatonna including Hy-Line Hatchery and the Milk House.
Chiwako taught the Japanese culture and foods to her family and the community. She was an excellent cook of Japanese food and was always willing to provide a special meal for her family. She loved her grandchildren and provided daycare to them over the years. She lived for her dogs. Chiwako always spoke the truth and was fearless.
She is survived by her children, Lee (Mary) Resler of Owatonna, Cindy (Rodney) Pittman of Bixby, Carol (Stephen) Lenz of Spokane, WA, Karen Kottke (Tony Wilson) of Minneapolis, and Kathleen (Cory) Shaw of Owatonna; eleven grandchildren, David (Abby) Zylstra, Nathan Resler, Tristan (Dan) Wiechmann, Cody (Myranda) Shaw, Vanessa Kottke, Derek Resler, Kameron Shaw, MacKenzie Resler, Brittney Resler, Kyle Shaw, and Riley Resler; five great grandchildren; sister, Sachiko and step sister, Tokiko; and her dogs, Nikki and Scooter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, grandson, Steven Zylstra, a sister, brother, and step brother.
Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Brian Sutton officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the family. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
