Obituary

Cora Caroline (Schwenke) Kubat, 92, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House. Cora was born November 9, 1920 the daughter of Arthur and Emelia (Zwar) Schwenke on the family farm near New Richland. She attended country schools and helped on the Spinler farm, Pillsbury College cafeteria and also did babysitting in Pratt. Cora was united in marriage to Albert Kubat on September 2, 1936 at St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church in Claremont. Later that same day her older sister Alma also married. In 1986 both couples celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries. Cora''s working careers were in waitressing at various restaurants. She worked at Selvick''s, Friendly Lunch, Ev''s Kitchen and later for 22 years at the Village Caf where she enjoyed visiting and waiting on all her customers. She enjoyed quilt making, knitting, crafts and doing various sewing projects for several people. She also enjoyed cooking, canning (from their large garden) and baking. She was famous for her banana bread in a can and making kalache. Albert passed away in 1994. Cora loved attending all her great grandkids'' school concerts, dance recitals and numerous birthday parties. She faithfully attended the yearly 4th of July family reunion held at the Medford Park. She is survived by two sons Alvin (and Sharon) Kubat of Owatonna; Duane Kubat (Karen Karow) of Owatonna; daughter-in-law Susan Kubat of Owatonna; a son-in-law Albert Warner of Northfield grandchildren Kathy (and Rollo) Hohrman; Danny (and Susie) Warner; David (and Tammie) Warner; Lisa (and Steve) Ackerman; Michael Kubat; Christine Kraudy; Scott Kubat; Kendall Kubat; Cory (and Stacy) Kubat; Debbie (and Randy) Roehl, Greg Kubat; step grandchildren Jess Terry; K.C. Kraudy; Lydia Kraudy; Kim Ackerman and Joel Ackerman. She is also survived by 25 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; three sisters Emma Mussman of Owatonna; Edna Karsten of Allentown, PA; Ada (and James) Logan of Wadena She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Kubat (1994); daughter Elaine Warner (2012); son Dennis Kubat (2002); grandson Stephen Kubat; granddaughter Theresa Gilman; step-grandson Ricky Jr.; two sisters Alma Ripka; Helen Splittstoesser and two brothers Ernest Schwenke; and Richard Schwenke. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 4 to 7 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating.
