Crystal C. Peterson, 84, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer at the Heritage House Assisted Living in Faribault. She was born February 1, 1928 in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota the daughter of John and Hilma (Larson) Shelstad. She attended country school then attended secretarial school in Faribault. She married George Peterson on October 3, 1949. They made their home in Kenyon. Throughout the years, Crystal worked in restaurants in Kenyon, including the Blue Bird Cafe. She also worked at the canning company and Foldcraft in Kenyon, and Rite-Way Packaging in Northfield. Crystal enjoyed the outdoors and loved to garden, watch the squirrels and birds. She enjoyed taking her dog, Homer, for walks. She had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh and smile. She also was an avid reader. She is survived by her two sons, George Peterson and Jim Peterson both of Kenyon; her two daughters, Lisa (and Joel) Boerner and Kathy Voracek all of Owatonna, and special family friend, Manuel Payn of Chaparral, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Brandon (and Peggy) Peterson, Angela (and Aaron) Peterson, Amanda (and Jeremy) Peterson, Pete Voracek and Jessica Boerner; four great grandchildren, Joslyn, William, Michael, and Emma; brother, Stanley Shelstad of Faribault; sisters, Hilda Hildebrandt of Kenyon, Amy Shelstad of Red Wing, and Juella Shelstad of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George (1968), infant granddaughter, Mariah Boerner, sister, Mabel Peterson, and brother, Gerhard Shelstad, and infant brother, Lester Shelstad. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church with The Reverend Kevin Finnegan officiating. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to the family.
