Obituary

Curtis Everett Schultz, 69, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at his home following a courageous cancer journey. He was born July 27, 1950 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Elwood and Ruth (Hughes) Schultz. He grew up in Owatonna where he graduated from high school in 1969. He then attended North Dakota School of Science before entering the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked as a diesel mechanic in Austin and also worked at his brother's station, Dick's Standard Oil Station. On September 3, 1976, he married Beverly Davis Heard at Crane Community Chapel in Austin, MN. The couple lived in Babbitt while Curtis worked in the mine. When the mine closed, Curtis and Beverly continued living in Babbitt working various jobs. Curtis felt God calling him to Christian ministry and in 1987 the couple moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where Curtis attended Jimmy Swaggart Bible College. He continued his education in Cleveland, TN and Birmingham, AL until 1998. An over-the-road trucking trip with his nephew brought him into the trucking industry where he drove until his retirement in 2015. Curtis was a member of the Cowboy Prayer Breakfast group in Owatonna and First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie. He loved music and played organ and sang in church. He enjoyed collecting model cars, ships and airplanes. He read many books and studied to become a pastor. He was always eager to share his love for Jesus with anyone he came in contact with. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Schultz of Owatonna; step-sons, Kevin (and Susan) Heard of Austin and Gary (and Mary) Heard of Austin; sister, Carolyn (and Eddie) Pederson of Owatonna; sister-in-law, Lou Schultz of Crossville, TN; 7 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Ruth; siblings and their spouses, Daryl (and Donna) Schultz, Geraldine (and Jim) Wilson and Richard (and Diane) Schultz; step-son, Ronald Heard and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger (and Mary) Davis. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, November 1st from 4-6 PM and at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie on Saturday from 10-11 AM. Funeral services will be held November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Matt Fennell officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
