Alfred Daniel Lewis, age 83, originally from Owatonna, died on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in Eden Prairie.

Dan was born August 15, 1940, the son of Alfred Harvey Lewis and Florence Schmanski Lewis Hann of Owatonna. Alfred was a well-known painting contractor and Florence "Flossy" was an active nurse working in the practice of Drs. Henry. Dan was a graduate of Owatonna High School where he participated in football, wrestling, drama, and the National Honor Society. Dan attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth on a football scholarship and was president of his social fraternity and an academic society, graduating in 1962.

Dan immediately began a 50-plus year career at Federated Insurance in Owatonna as a sales trainee, rising within the company and taking various postings in the state before returning to Owatonna where he ultimately served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Director and Secretary of the Board. Until the end, he was dedicated to the commercial insurance industry, the success of Federated Insurance and its employees. At his death, he was Director Emeritus and the company's Learning Center was dedicated to his career. Dan was further dedicated to the town of Owatonna, with all of his children graduating from Owatonna High School, and serving the Parks and Recreation Board and the Owatonna Foundation.

Dan was very dedicated to his family and particularly his grandchildren who provided him with much happiness and satisfaction. He is remembered as a person who laughed easily, enjoyed any kind of discussion, and was happiest supporting others. Dan is survived by his wife Bonnie of 61 years, his sons Bradley and Randall Lewis and daughters Jane Lewis and Anne Lewis Hamann; his grandchildren Julianne, George, Grant, Henry, Ben, Sarah, Brooke, Jack, and Thomas, and his sister Sally Lewis Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Susan Lewis Miller.

Visitation will be January 12, 2024 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna, with a service beginning at 4:00PM. The family will hold a private burial at the Owatonna Memorial Gardens cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Federated Challenge or the "Children Remembered: Orphanage Legacy Fund" at the Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children where Dan often visited as a child.
