Daniel John Bendorf, 63, of Owatonna, MN passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Daniel was born July 28, 1954 at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington to Lavern and Darlene (Thurnau) Bendorf. He was a 1972 graduate of Owatonna High School. Dan married Kathleen Wright on April 27, 1974 in Bloomington, MN. They lived their entire married life in Owatonna, MN. Dan, or Benny as he was called by his co-workers, was a Master Plumber and worked for over forty years at McCarthy Plumbing and Block Plumbing. Dan's interests included deer hunting, bow hunting, fishing, woodworking, and golfing. Dan and Kathy both loved the game of hockey and they were a billet family to over 30 players for the Express and Blades Junior hockey organizations. In his younger years, he participated in golf, softball, volleyball, and broomball leagues. He was a past member of the Eagles Club and the Owatonna Dive Club. He enjoyed building many beautiful wood projects for his family and friends, playing cards, going on walks with his dog, Raven, and spending time out at his little piece of heaven enjoying nature. He loved sitting in his recliner gazing at the wildlife that came through the yard. He even had a cardinal (fondly known as Carl) that visited him for a number of months by pecking at the window each day. Dan loved spending time with his grandchildren; they were the loves of his life. Papa could do no wrong by them. Dan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy; daughters Brooke (Geoff) Zahn of Prior Lake, MN and Aubrey (Jason) McShane of Waseca, MN; grandchildren Abigail and Lauren Zahn, Jack and Max McShane; his mother, Darlene Bendorf of Owatonna; siblings Vicky (LeRoy) Hartle of Owatonna, Bonnie (Kim) Neumann of Medford, David (Michele) Bendorf of Owatonna and Karen (Mark) Peterson of Owatonna; nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Lavern (Bud) Bendorf. A visitation/memorial gathering is planned for Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home (1930 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN).
