Darlene E. Benson, 81, of Kenyon, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Darlene was born April 8, 1927 in Tulare, South Dakota the daughter of Melford and Murriel (Hadley) Hagen. She was raised in Rockham and attended school in nearby Redfield, SD. She continued her education receiving her teacher's certification. Darlene then taught school in Park Township and for the Faulk School system. She was united in marriage to T. Vincent Benson on September 7, 1950, and they made their home in the Huron, SD area. In 1952, they moved to the Kenyon-Wanamingo area and then the Minneapolis area before returning to Kenyon where she worked at Vermilyeas Department Store, Coast to Coast Hardware and Motor Mart all in Kenyon, retiring due to ill health. She is survived by her husband T. Vincent Benson of Kenyon; daughter, Sandra (and Curtis) Werner of Elk River; two sons, Tom (and Kathy) Benson of Seattle, WA; Ty (and Beverly) Benson of Chatfield, MN; two brothers, Clifford (and Arlys) Hagen of Fargo, ND; Gale (and Virginia) Hagen Rapid City, SD; a sister, Avis Hansen of Mobridge, SD; and nine grandchildren: Jesse Benson, Sam Benson, Grant Benson, Jansen Werner, Lucas Werner, Landon Werner, Ali Benson, Chelsea Benson and Jordin Splittstoeser. She was preceded in death by her parents Melford and Murriel and a brother, Melford, at infancy. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held November 24, 2008 at 1:00 PM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon.
