Darlene Dorothy Shaw, 88, of Owatonna died on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Owatonna Hospital.
Darlene was born the daughter of Edward “Peachy” and Dorothy (Gunderson) Egli on September 19, 1937, in St. Peter. She graduated from St. Peter High School. She then graduated from Mankato State College with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Eyota, Zumbrota, Robinsdale, and North St. Paul. She was united in marriage to Dale Shaw at Gustavas’ Christ Chapel in St. Peter on December 14, 1963. After their marriage, they moved following Dale’s career and she taught in Mankato and Vernon Center. After moving to Owatonna in 1982, she was a substitute teacher in the elementary schools. She retired from teaching in 2008.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was an usher. Before moving to Owatonna, she taught Sunday School at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato.
Darlene enjoyed reading, shopping and going on their annual camping and fishing trip to Canada. She and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Florida, where they could be near their son and family and have the opportunity to spoil the grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years; son, Mark (and Victoria) of Bemidji; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Volk of St. Peter and Annmarie (and Keith) Glanzer of Elko; brother, James (and Tonya) Egli of St. Peter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
The memorial service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11am with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's or a charity of your choice in Darlene's memory.
