Darrel J. Staats 45 of Owatonna died Monday morning July 13, 2015 at Abbott- Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Darrel was born March 6, 1970 in Farmington, MN to James and Linda (Mongeau) Staats. He graduated from Rosemount High School in 1988 and attended Brown Institute for two years. He worked as assistant manager at Happy Chef in Owatonna. After becoming disabled Darrel volunteered extensively. Darrel was united in marriage to Sharrie Koester on March 25, 1995 in Owatonna at Bethel Church. He was a volunteer and avid fan of the Steele County Blades; he enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, and was a huge sports fan. Darrel's greatest joy in life was his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Sharrie of Owatonna, children Bette (Justin) Boerner of Owatonna, Curtis (April) Boettcher of Owatonna, and Patrick (Lindsey) Dolan of Owatonna, ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Linda (Hal) Arnason of Deerwood, father James (Sharon) Staats of Rosemount, siblings Kathy (Gary) Verhoek of Bruce, SD, Patti (Mihai) Miu of Princeton, Jim (Lydia) Staats of Glenwood City, WI, David (Deesa) Staats of Northfield, Jodi (Dave) Christopher of Crosby, Leslie Arnason of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, Gina (Randy) Kilbo of Independence, Jill (John) Weibel of Savage, and Brian (Adriana) Henderson of Rosemount, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his father in law, and one niece. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home Thursday July 16, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 16, 2015 at 3:00 PM with The Reverend James Avery officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
