Darrell E. Lennon, 83, of Owatonna, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at Owatonna Commons. He was born October 4, 1927 in Merton Township, Steele County, Minnesota the son of William and Alice (Stockwell) Lennon. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947, most of which time he was assigned to the 1st Guided Missile Battalion at White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. Darrell married Jeanette Kniefel on June 28, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Darrell worked at Jostens for forty years and retired in 1993. He was a big brother in the Big Brother/Big Sister program from 1986 to mid 2010. During this time he was chosen Big Brother of the Year for Steele County and the State of Minnesota. Darrell also had a particular interest in genealogy as he wanted to pass on to his grandchildren a record of their family history. He also enjoyed working in his yard and the time spent with his family and little brothers. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Lennon of Owatonna; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Karen (and Dr. Christopher) Mar of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Brenden and Kaitlin Mar, brothers, Gale (and Vonnie) Lennon of Clakamas, Oregon and Earl (and Barbara) Lennon of Apache Junction, Arizona; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Donald and sister-in-law Mae. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM . Funeral services will be held December 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna with military honors by Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Catholic School, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, or donor's choice.
