Darrell D. Slack, age 66, of Owatonna, MN, died in the presence of his family on Friday, June 24, 2016, following a brief illness.
Darrell Don Slack was born on June 6, 1950 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, the son of Donald and Grace (Rine) Slack. As a child, he moved with his family to Owatonna where he attended elementary school and later moved to Elkton, South Dakota where he graduated from high school in 1968. He then attended Pillsbury Baptist Bible College and graduated in 1972. While living in Elkton, he met his wife, Deloris DeZeeuw, and they were married on June 17, 1972. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their six children. Darrell worked for 47 years at Lakeside Foods in Owatonna, most recently as an Operations Manager, and was looking forward to his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching his children play sports, pitching horseshoes, trips to the Wisconsin Dells and family Rook games. He especially enjoyed his 17 grandchildren. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1972, where he served in the bus ministry, taught classes and was presently serving as a deacon.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Owatonna; children, Nathan (Stephanie) Slack of Owatonna, Chris (Shallyn) Slack of Owatonna, Justin (Marne) Slack of Owatonna, Jon (Emily) Slack of Owatonna, Tara (Paul) Barto of Waseca and David (Charity) Slack of Owatonna; 17 grandchildren, Lillian, Serenity Savannah, Kaden, Kaitlin, J.T., Savanah Q., Levi, Lucas, Gavin, Avery, Halle, Piper, Madison, Olivia, Carson and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Grace; brothers, Rodney, Dennis and Rick and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Eldon Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Grace Baptist Church in Owatonna. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
