Darvin Gene Erickson, 76, of Kenyon, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at Florence Community Hospital in Arizona. He passed away the morning he and his wife were scheduled to come home to Minnesota. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, took him home with Him instead. He was born March 16, 1935 in Skyberg the son of Lester and Myrtle (Hovelson) Erickson. Darvin graduated from Kenyon High School with the Class of 1953. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957 in Germany. Darvin married Shirley LaVonn Benson September 20, 1958 and the couple lived in Kenyon. He was self employed in the trucking industry. He hauled livestock to South St. Paul with his father, grain out of the Kenyon and Bombay elevators, mattresses out of Kenyon Leggett Platt. Darv then leased a small fleet of trucks to Midwest Specialized Transportation of Rochester hauling to 48 states and Canada. In 1981 he received the 1,000,000 mile safety award for accident free driving. Darv was a member of Kenyon Jaycees, VFW Post #141, the Winnebago Itasca Travelers, and the Southern Honkers RV Club serving as president in 2001-2002. He was a lifelong member of Hegre Lutheran Church. Darv was a talented relief wood carver and enjoyed making replicas of Caterpillar tractors from common pieces of scrap material. He also enjoyed antique tractor shows and reading books on World War II. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Erickson of Kenyon; sons, Darin (and Rochelle) Erickson of Kenyon, Loren Erickson of Skyberg; daughters, Rhonda (and David) Amon of Minnetonka, Chrysauna (and Rick) Buan of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Evan Holmes, Nathan Schmidt, Victoria Amon, Melissa Amon, Alec Buan, Macy Buan, Courtney Erickson. Darvin was preceded in death by his sister, Ramona and brother, Lowell Erickson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Friday, April 15 from 5pm to 8pm and at Hegre Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11am at Hegre Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Hegal officiating.
